Going through the interview process for an AE position (SMB, US). I've read quite a few of the reviews and QAs here, and it definitely makes me nervous.

Have things been improving for the sales team in the past few months?

Ramp is doable f you get a decent install base of customers to cross sell to and are a demon at cold prospecting - but you will be under mad pressure like everyone else from about month 6. Timing is everything in sales and your timing sucks here tbh

Still a lot of people constantly being PIPd out. Also when you talk to them the consensus is that it’s not about selling. It’s about figuring out how to get companies that convert into your name.

Overhiring reps to replace the many that are PIPed every month. Ask your recruiter what percentage of non-ramped reps hit quota, they won’t be able to / want to give you that number.

It hasn’t really improved. Still only a few people hitting consistently and they just so happen to be internal BDR promotions (they know how to work the system and find hot leads). This role isn’t about being a good seller it’s about knowing to find leads.

It's extremely difficult to be consistent in this role. Monthly quota is high as are the KPI expectations. You have to accept that a lot of your hard work and effort could be nullified by an end of month clawback that you have no control over.

No. I’m on to my 4th manager and 4th director in the last 15 months. Steer clear until this place figures it out. Only here bc I haven’t had another offer from somewhere else yet.

There have been a couple monster wins lately.  Like a years worth of quota. Those are great but only if you’re the rep who got it.  They are skewing the avg significantly.  But mgmt is measured by the team number so it looks like it’s getting better to them.

There is a new (and improved) onboarding process for sales. You'll now be onboarded by a Sales Manager who was previously a rep and they are held accountable to your number. This has a huge impact on a new hires performance
