What is the average attainment rep for an SMB AE here? What is the liklihood of survival for 2 years? I have had a friend who has success at the Mid Market level year 1 and got PIP year 2 not based on skill but territory change. Is work life balance ok at hubspot as an SMB AE?

It’s Russian roulette. On avg. 25-30% hit full quota monthly. Dont let them trick you with ramp attainment.

On full monthly quota, there is no work life balance unless you get really lucky one month and can afford to take a few days, maybe a week off. Even then, your prospecting suffers while you are out which already puts you behind for the next monthly quota.

The full quota is high and few consistently hit it. To even have a chance to hit quota, most likely you will need to be locked into your computer, scanning for leads, following-up, and prospecting which most of the time doesn't pay off. But again, this is just to have a chance. Sometimes warmer leads will get rotated to you but it is not guaranteed. Some people can get a lead rotated and that will end up converting to half their quota, others won't get a good rotated lead for a month or more.

Some clients just don't sign in time. Especially around holidays. They (clients) don't really care you are on a monthly quota, so this can get tricky and encourages you to start pressuring them to meet your deadlines.

Also, keep in mind the clawback rule will constantly create an uphill climb for you and give you at least another 5-10% (maybe more) of a hole to climb out of every month.

Every month starts new and your install base accounts sometimes get rotated (and can't be counted on for consistent revenue) so even if you are a skilled rep, you still need to always be hustling like you just joined the company.

Survival for two years is rare. Even over a year is uncommon now.

If you want to hit full quota - you will have to be willing to put in the hours. You'll need to consistently be prospecting and sourcing new accounts.  If work / life balance is important to you, I'd look elsewhere

I’ve talked to other leaders in other organizations within the business and they agree performance really has nothing to do with skill. But more willingness to bend the rules and be crafty with how the system works. A lot of shady things are done by reps to get ahead, like marking bad fit.

1)  long term survival is difficult and a lot of reps get PIP’d at some point. The first year is easy as you are on a ramp for about 10 months
2) in relation to work-life balance they have unlimited PTO etc and encourage it but realistically impossible as fast paced and targets are high as you ram

Most SMB reps do pretty well during their 9 month RAMP period. After that, about 25% of fully ramped reps hit quota on a consistently. If you have great background in prospecting here, you may do well. However, most new reps last only about a year and change before quitting or getting fired
