Former Employee At Lumenis, I was brought in with high expectations around the size and potential of the territory. What was pitched to me during the hiring process—particularly in terms of total addressable market and growth opportunity—turned out to be significantly overstated. “Oh you can basically have your kids college paid for in a couple years.” Once I got into the role and had boots on the ground, it became clear that the market had already been heavily saturated, the pricing structure wasn’t competitive, and the available accounts had been overpromised or were simply unqualified. Half of who you are selling to already are packed to the gills with devices and the other half couldn’t afford the device, and could never get approved for financing. Or simply legally could not use the device. I did everything I could to make it work, but the fundamentals just weren’t there. All around bad timing for the territory and the company. Ultimately, I made the difficult decision to step away rather than dig myself deeper into a situation that would have further damaged my credibility or stalled my career.
