Former Employee Protolabs does not provide a pathway to grow into a true sales career. Roles are frequently described as “glorified customer service reps” because leads are funneled directly in, leaving little to no opportunity to develop core sales skills like prospecting, cold calling, or pipeline building. As a result, employees miss out on the foundational experiences needed to succeed in other sales environments.
The company’s recent sales restructuring has effectively shifted earnings away from top performers to boost company margins, creating frustration and eroding trust. A lack of transparency from leadership further contributes to an unstable and unmotivated sales culture.
From my perspective, the role was underwhelming—challenging neither my abilities nor my career development. Growth opportunities were minimal at best.
For someone seeking a low-pressure, stable position where the workload is light, Protolabs could be a good fit. However, for driven professionals who want to build a true sales career, gain critical experience, and grow their skill set, this is not the right place.
