I have been doing commercial real estate brokerage for about 7 years. Recently turned 30 and am thinking of making a transition to tech sales. I don’t want my pay to decrease substantially but am willing to take a step back to get started. Does anyone have any advice on getting started in starting the search?
Tech Sales is in a rut right now. You will need to find a specific company whose product/market fit is growing.
seems like commercial real estate can only go up after the nightmare you probably lived through during covid/the last 5 years.
That's been my biggest thought while I've been contemplating a change is that these past 5-years has been a challenge from a policy standpoint. The other driving point I am considering is the reliance on location and not having any location autonomy if I were to want to move closer to family. The relationships developed are very local and while the skills are transferable, the relationships are not so to move would be like starting over.
Look into firms that are growing in the PropTech space to leverage your CRE experience, may have to jump onboard a smaller OEM or consultant agency to get an AE gig. SDR roles are plentiful.
Talk to the people in your network in tech sales. (Hopefully you've made some contacts via your real estate deals.) The easiest way in is through the people you know.
