What's better, being a manager or an account executive?

Agree with Hyena. I did both. Management is rewarding like a parent. Coach them, develop them, watch them grow, and watch them soar. Money is usually not great compared to a IC role. I doubled my income as a individual contributor but miss helping teams.
It depends on what you mean by "better" - having done both, being an AE is significantly more fun and can be far more rewarding (strictly speaking in comp). That said I get a lot of personal gratification by helping my team win, getting things unstuck / removing barriers, coaching and upskilling junior AEs, but the reporting and forecasting stress is much more compounded.
