Founders excel as technical conversations but struggle to run a stable company that appeals to mass market. 2021 Apollo had a game changing product and was exploding in growth. The product has not fundamentally changed since then. Yes, the product has gotten better and included more features. But it never reached further than its initial goal of federation.

Apollo is based on an open source technology, GraphQL. The company does not do a good job of differentiating between open source and the Enterprise offering.
