How often does Whatfix come up against Pendo? Where does it win/lose? Unclear which is the leader from my research.

It all depends on use cases.  In many occasions the two companies are not in the same conversation.  From a Product Owner perspective, Pendo is seen as the leader.  Advanced data for product owners to truly dive in to understand how an application is being used.  
For user guidance/adoption, then Whatfix rises above.  Whatfix is working to improve its analytics offering and Pendo is aiming to jump into new LE use cases.  Only basic implementations are simply to set up for both.  For LE companies with multiple languages and roles, the lift is substantial and then it must be maintained.  Both fail if the business is not 100% committed to maximizing use of the tools and have completed the challenging value realization work to justify the spend.  Hope this helps.

Whatfix does not come up too often against Pendo. Walkme comes up more often then Pendo actually. Both product have their strengths. When a product team is evaluating Pendo tends to win more often whereas when Sales ops/documentation/L&D etc are evaluating Whatfix tends to win deals. It clearly depends on who and what organisations are trying to achieve.
