Question

Top Earning Potential seems fairly capped - doesnt look like the plan allows for anyone to blow it out and 2x 3x 4x OTE even if they crush it (2x, 3x, 4x quota) ... Any discussion with leadership to make some adjustments here? Thanks!

To supply some context I have been here for a while and made club most years - I would say the top sales person each year is making close to 3x their OTE while selling less than 2x their quota.  I have not seen anyone exceed 2x their quota, not because it is capped, but because the nature of the deal size and volume makes it extremely unlikely.      The way Avalara "caps" commissions is by having a separate quote for Q1, Q2, and H2 - or in some ways it allows people to hit accelerators that may not be able to otherwise(top performers disagree with this talk track).  That is where we have seen limits in commissions.

It is my experience this is a very true and real assessment of anyone on GTM and sales at Avalara.
The compensation structure is microscopic and quotas are bone chrushingly challenging. At least that is the experiences in enterprise account management. I am not familiar with anyone in account management, enterprise or core finishing the year 2x or greater. Not to say it does not happen but it is extremely, extremely rare.

It is only a matter of time before the elite successful hardworking players in the sales org grow tired of being buggy whipped for little reward they'll finally look up, look around and take their passion, tenure and experience elsewhere because there is more to be made. 
It is a fact. Even Avalara's primary competitors are hiring and paying way more.
