Are there frequent changes to the compensation plan at CoStar Group? How does the company determine sales territories?

Typically comp plans are updated every February depending on new products and enhancements. Most reps start with a book of business but then can expand their book of business by selling anyone in their own markets.

The compensation here constantly changes, and the company genuinely and literally doesn’t care whether you live or die. They forced everyone back into the office right after the first COVID vaccine was released, with the CEO reassuring us that statistically, only one or two of us would die.

CoStar isn't afraid to pay AEs for performance/activity they want out of you.

By in large the comp basic plan stays the same, however, they may make tweaks to KPIs to fine tune it over the fiscal year. Or introduce SPIFFs to offset things if payouts are under performing expectations.

Yes, there are frequent changes to the comp plan. One happened retroactively at month-end, & the director who raised concerns that the sales team should be made aware of changes before they are implemented was fired. Territories are a free for all and based on easily manipulated rules of engagement.

Depending on the product you are selling, CoStar Group has something like 20 different products with their own sales teams, you can see different contests and incentives each month. There’s a base salary and bonus structure in place that doesn’t change. Sales territories aren’t shaken up much.

Comp changed more this year than in most, as a result of the addition of new products to sell (providing a significant earning opportunity boost). Generally, comp is adjusted once annually. KPIs are fine tuned throughout the year.

Compensation generally only changes once per year at the annual sales conference in Jan. Mostly insignificant changes, but they do quarterly incentive programs for selling whatever their focus is at the time. Territories are determined by RVPs
