The SDR department at Expel is very different from what’s presented in the interview process. While it’s positioned as collaborative and supportive, in practice it is highly process-driven with little room for creativity or career growth. Promotions or paths to AE are rare, with minimal support provided. Workload expectations are unrealistic, often 50–60 hours per week, paired with frequent PIP threats that add significant pressure. The culture is extremely Slack-heavy, so much so that even senior leadership has flagged it as distracting. Territories are reassigned often, making it difficult to build momentum, and favoritism sometimes impacts how opportunities are distributed. Quota attainment is a struggle for the majority of the team, with those hitting numbers largely relying on inbound leads. KPIs appear more focused on reporting optics than developing employees, and many processes remain manual despite available tools. On the broader company side, Expel has talented, kind people and moments of enjoyable culture. However, the lack of a CMO and weak brand presence create significant challenges for sales. Cultural quirks, like cursing in all-hands, is definitely cringe. Overall, the SDR team faces micromanagement, unclear priorities, and high turnover. Candidates should know expectations do not align with what’s promised.
