What is the product training like for new reps? Do they hire people who are experienced in sales but don't know anything about their products?

As always, it depends on the hiring manager, but in my case, I was hired as a Regional Account Manager without any prior experience in their products or in cybersecurity. I had extensive sales experience, a strong internal referral, and prepared for the interviews by learning about the product and completing the free certifications available at the time. There are plenty of internal training materials, dedicated training support, and free resources available at training.fortinet.com, which make it easier to ramp up quickly if you put the effort.

Huge portfolio so it can be challenging to grasp all the solution areas.  Depends on where you are being hired for like inside sales or field.  Great SE organization who do very well with the product areas.  Up to the AEs to be really good at focusing on selling more of solutions and outcomes.  If you come from outside networking or security you will find it a big lift to get up to speed quickly.  Best to focus on their bread and butter which is the secure networking area.  But plenty of online assets to train your brain!

Product training is good. However, one caveat is that Fortinet probably has one of the broadest portfolios of products in enterprise Security and Networking market. Realistically, it will take 2-3 years to find your feet as a novice in this industry. One thing to note is that Fortinet has some of the best Pre-Sales Engineers in the industry, so as a Sales Pro, just lean on them and you should be fine.

Training is solid.  Accounts are the problem.  Experienced reps pick over the accounts they want and crap gets sent downhill to new reps.  They are begging for reps right now because of this model.  (Paying 13k for referrals right now) Don’t be another victim.
