Okta was a challenging place to work but not for the reasons you might expect - opportunities on the “strat team” were few and far between where your 10 accounts were either customers who owned virtually everything or a Microsoft customer who had no intention of switching (Okta is a superior product but not superior enough to make the switch a no brainer for a happy-ish Microsoft customer). Hard to build a truly compelling business case. If you’re accustomed to an energetic environment with decent market velocity this is not your place. I will say on a positive note that the culture was positive / not toxic.

Going vertical with industries and geographical location does leave a lot of room for luck over your skill. Okta used to be good. New business leads are almost non existent as MSFT continues bundling their Identity suite into their Entra licenses. GTM messaging of converged platform will take a couple of years to start resonating with prospects and large enterprise accounts.
