Former Employee First internal IC to manager promo. Found out I was getting paid 40% less than my predecessor, despite having the same experience going in and the expectations going up. Asked for face time with the VP/HM - got blocked. After pressing, I finally earned 30-mins with him.
Started by saying I'm simply seeking to understand the logic and wanted to avoid ad-hominem comparisons. Queue 20-min steamroll with big "take it or leave it energy". Hands on the table and trap-flexing to boot.
When I attempted to poke holes in his argument, he got upset and suggested I stay in my current role. I took the offer as-is and expressed my gratitude.
That was Wednesday. Got PIP'd Monday (4-days into the role). Everything was from the negotiation. I was offered a 30-day severance, but took the PIP.
Never received paperwork. Never got a 1:1 with my VP. Never got included in forecasting meetings. Leaned into podcasts to manage my way through, but growth plans changed and promo timelines got indefinitely extended.
People quit. Pipeline fell off a cliff, and I was fired for performance, receiving 6-weeks severance after giving 2 years of my life.
Hardest year of my life, hands down.
