The executives of this company are grim reapers. They acquired us and cut 90% of the sales team to offshore the jobs in Costa Rica and India. They were friendly up to the point of the ink drying. The CEO even said we have a 94% retention rate and if we don’t have happy employees we don’t have a company. They get around that by offering limited term offers to the people they’re firing. They gave no weighting to tenure or achievement. The only thing they care about is a 40% profit margin. Why? They can pay the top executives and buy back shares to pump up the value of their options.

My overall experience was mixed. Progress has a financial driven culture, not a sales culture. Upper management keeps changing every year in sales which throws everything into chaos. Lots of spreadsheets, big brother and counting things, meetings, calls, etc.

SEs are top notch. Biggest downside is Progress is growth by acquisition, so existing product lines don’t get much by the way of investment.
