There is a clear disconnect between leadership and employees in the field. The constant push for new logo acquisition clashes with the reality that the product often feels at parity or even below competitors, but never truly above. It relies heavily on best-of-breed ecosystems or customer-built custom solutions, both of which typically require significant technical lift or additional licensing costs. Morale has been damaged by multiple layoffs within the GTM team, which hurt trust and culture. While new sales leadership wants people to succeed, they have simultaneously created a high-pressure environment where job security feels uncertain and anyone can be let go on short notice. The company has also pivoted to an enterprise-only sales motion, drastically shrinking the pool of target accounts. Interest from prospects is already low, yet leadership continues to add more sales reps as a supposed fix, further highlighting the gap between strategy and execution. Overall, the company projects ambition but lacks the execution and product differentiation to stand out—leaving employees navigating mixed signals, heightened pressure, and limited market traction.

We truly appreciate you sharing such thoughtful feedback about your experience, and we’re grateful for your honesty. We recognize that the past year brought a lot of change for our sales organization, and we understand how that can feel from the field. Feedback like this is important as we continue strengthening how we communicate expectations, strategy, and direction across the team. At the same time, we’re proud of the progress the company has made this year. We hit several of our key business goals, continued to grow with some of the world’s largest enterprises, and made meaningful strides in both our product roadmap and our long-term strategy. Going into 2026, we feel confident in the focus we have in place and the team supporting it. Thank you again for taking the time to share your perspective, and we wish you the very best in what comes next.

I was part of the recent layoffs, and the reality at commercetools is far worse than leadership admits. In total, the layoffs exceeded 25%, with months of silent cuts disguised as budget planning. The CEO's claims of “generous severance” are false, only the legal minimum was given. Employees were fired based on age, location, or cost, not performance. Those laid off...Read More

We’re truly sorry that this was your experience, and we appreciate you taking the time to share it. The restructuring earlier this year was incredibly difficult, and we understand how strongly it affected many people. We do want to clarify a few points so the record reflects what actually occurred. The percentage referenced here is not accurate; the reduction was significantly smaller. In several of our operating regions, there is no legal minimum severance requirement, yet we provided packages to all impacted employees. Decisions were also not based on age or location. In fact, as required by law, we disclosed anonymized age data specifically to demonstrate that age was not a factor in the process, and no location-based criteria were used. Every impacted individual was spoken to directly before any companywide communication was shared. The internal message that circulated externally was sent after those conversations took place, and unfortunately was leaked without authorization. While this period was painful for many, it’s important to us to be transparent about what actions were taken and what was not. We’re genuinely sorry that you left feeling unsupported, and we sincerely wish you the very best in your next chapter.
