Mobility or Fiber - where can you ramp the fastest and find early success?

As a CSE (Account Executive), Mobility is much more simpler to sell and manage. Fiber / wireline is so complex. You can sell some massive deals in fiber / wireline, but mobility starting out is easier.

Mobility can be hard if you don’t get to sell the FirstNet portfolio. Pricing can be hard too

Fiber will pay better, but has a smaller footprint and higher penetration demand.

If you sell fiber and then go to an area without it, you’ll have stronger skills than reps who didn’t have fiber to start.

Hey there, I came up through B2B and I’ve been at the company for about 7 years now as a seller and manager. I’ve done both fiber and mobility.

Without question, fiber is better. Zero doubt about it. Better for ramping fast and for the long term

It depends on your background experience. I would say that you would ramp faster in either side if you have previous experience in selling those products and services. They just changed the commission structure and territory for both Mobility and Fiber so it's a new scenario for everyone.

I am in mobility, ramp was easy and paid very well in the first 3 months. If you get your training out of the way as fast as possible and spend your remaining hours finding some good large opportunities, you will be successful. Mobility pricing is easy to understand, easy to propose, and easy to sell. Mostly just competing with a service objection as we can usually win on price with custom rate plans.

Fiber if you want to be in TX, GA, or CA. Everywhere else is spotty. Mobility is much easier to get quick wins and isn't constrained to area. I'd also highly suggest you look at the root metrics score of AT&T in the area you're looking at starting your career. Wireless network can greatly vary depending on location.

Having been both business/enterprise in both mobility & wireline space over the course of 20 years the answer is it depends.  If you can sell FirstNet on the mobility side you have the best wireless product at yiour disposal in the market.  That being said career wise mobility is generally more of a commodity so you do not deal with higher level decision makes that the wireline/telco reps do.  If you are wiling to pull doors & pound the pavement the AT&T Business Fiber reps are among the highest compensated sales reps and it's great exposure into how things really work in telco because you get real field experience.  Generally speaking the AT&T Fiber team has been well run through the years as well.

It depends on how available AT&T  fiber is in your area. Fiber is probably more lucrative overall whereas mobility has a higher floor/lower ceiling if that makes sense.
