Former Employee Working in Toast’s Growth org can be financially and professionally rewarding, but the path to success often leads to burnout. As a Growth AE, you’re responsible for upselling SaaS modules to existing customers—not managing accounts—yet your monthly quota is a steep $84,000 ARR. With average deal sizes around $1.7K, hitting that number requires an exhausting volume of deals.
Most customers have already purchased several modules from prior reps, and you’ll frequently run into unresolved issues or unhappy clients. Support tickets often sit unanswered for weeks, leaving you to step in and resolve problems just to earn the opportunity to pitch. Though it’s not in the job description, you’ll end up acting as an Account Manager and even assisting with self-service onboarding post-sale.
Despite these challenges, I performed very well—but it took a toll. The pressure, lack of support, and constant juggling of responsibilities led to serious burnout. The base salary (~$55K) doesn’t offset the emotional and mental strain.
In short, Toast offers high earning potential, but at a high personal cost. If you value work-life balance and sustainable success, there are better roles out there—even in this market. Browse Other Reviews
