How challenging is the transition from SDR to AE role at Navan?

I would highly recommend against joining an SDR role at Navan.  It is probably one of the worst SDR roles I have ever seen at a sales organization. They do promote SDR's but the issue is it will make you hate sales as a career. The metrics do not make any sense and you are forced to compete with AEs to hit your quota targets.

Unsurprisingly, as Navan's growth has significantly slowed down, the need for additional AE headcount slows as well so there is a lot of competition for the spaces that do become available.  This year they switched to a quarterly promotion path so even if you hit your "qualification criteria" in the first month of a quarter, you're still waiting another few months to then compete with even more people for the roles.  They also change quota criteria frequently without updating the promotion paths to match which could be beneficial or detrimental depending on the flavor of the month.  Then when you do get promoted, the Commercial AE team is struggling so you'll just be fighting a new battle when you get there.

Very little training going from SDR to AE. The training is ultimately to pick up the phone and book meetings and your manager will run the discovery calls for the first month or two and hopefully you figure out how to run discovery and demo by your manager running your deals for you for a month
