What departments or roles should I explore if I'm interested in a sales position at Yelp, and what are the potential growth opportunities in each?

Most folks start off with local sales (targeting and selling Yelp ads to small mom and pop businesses with less than 5 locations) . Earning potential from the start is uncapped.  If you show up with a good attitude, and you put in the work there's a lot you can learn. I think this is a good starting role to dive into because you'll get in a lot of repetition for cold calling, pitching and closing over the phone. More reps = more opportunities to practice and work on your craft.

You can continue leveling up as an individual contributor earning more doing the exact same job.

You'll  have opportunities to apply for management roles.

The Restaurant department is separate and that is where you will sell the entire restaurant Saas suite.  I enjoyed that more because it felt like selling a more complete solution, enabled travel opportunities to build up more face to face selling experience .

The next tier you could move up into is mid-market businesses.

The top tier is Enterprise sales.

There are no options for different roles or departments. Everyone starts as an "AE" (essentially a cold calling telemarketing job). Minimal growth opportunities, you could maybe move into management or LCP. I would suggest skipping Yelp and going to an SDR/BDR role instead. OR you could do Yelp for 1-2 years just to have it on your resume but then leave.

Their smb AE role is alot of cold calling but youll learn alot. Its like a hyperbolic time chamber (goku reference).

If youre going to Emerging AE then make sure you are an AE as Client partners (CPs) havent be able to hit quota as an org this year.
