Why is the base salary so low across the board for Yelp? Is management doing anything to address that gap? I'm sure it hurts with retention

Yelp's base salary is soooo low because the turnover with employees is HIGH. Yelp hires HUNDREDS of employees at once, because most won't stick around long, either they will quit or get fired. So they hire in BULK and lose employees just as fast. Yelp tries to dangle that carrot of "unlimited commissions" to make up for the low base, and they say you can earn "over $200k a year," but they don't explain that it will be a grind that is not sustainable. Not saying it's not possible, but it's not very attainable. To qualify to earn commissions, you need to sell $12k to unlock commissions...each month. so for example, if you only sell $11K, you do not qualify for commissions, and you do not earn commissions off that 11K you sold, so essentially you're working for free on those sales, you'll only earn your base pay which ended up being a little over $900 every two weeks, not sustainable!

Yelp is a revolving door of recent grads, I wouldn't recommend sticking around longer than a year. Great way to get some sales experience and a foot in the door. Would recommend looking at BDR jobs that are far less grating and provide faster career mobility.

They are not doing anything about it.  And don’t expect any raises unless you are promoted, not even a COL raise.

Depends on the role.  The more junior roles are entry sals roles.

They won't do anything about it because it is intended to be that way. In the words of my sales director "the base is low here because we want to see you make the big bucks from earning commission." You need to sell approximately 1M in lifetime revenue to see a decent base imo. For this reason you'll notice a lot of reps leave before one year of service, and those that remain are closing enough deals to be satisfied with the incremental base pay raises and commission bonuses.
