If you’re an A-player thinking about joining Zscaler, read on. Zscaler has an incredible product and is the clear SSE leader. In enterprise (5k+ employees), the pain is obvious and the value story is strong. In commercial/SMB, expect an uphill battle unless there’s a clear trigger. This is a 95% hunter role with minimal inbound. Most of your pipe will be self sourced, and partners often say Zscaler is a hard sell. Success depends heavily on building trust with the channel. Territory and account assignments can shift frequently, sometimes based on leadership preference rather than strategy. If leadership likes you, you may benefit. If not, deals you’ve worked can be reassigned. In some GEOs, favoritism is noticeable, and coaching or support can be inconsistent. The comp plan has a critical clause: once you’re given notice of termination, you are no longer eligible for commissions on any deal that closes afterward, even if you fully sourced and ran the opportunity. You also don’t receive the comp plan until after you join, so ask for it upfront. Overall, Zscaler can be rewarding for true hunters, but go in with eyes open and ask detailed questions about comp, territory stability, and leadership style.
