Current Employee I work for Abbott Point of Care and sell the i-STAT, which honestly has no real competition. But the downside is the “Abbott homework.” They expect 30 in-person meetings and 10 Teams calls a month, which is completely unrealistic, so everyone just fudges their numbers. Leadership cares more about call metrics than actual sales. It’s super corporate—everyone gives the polished “Abbott answer,” and it’s hard to have a real conversation. The admin work is endless: sales modules, compliance, logging, etc. They just rolled out two new cartridges and set quotas sky-high based on zero real market research, assuming every ED in the country would want them. Most reps won’t even come close to hitting those numbers. Even stuff that should be a Teams call ends up as mandatory travel, mostly to make leadership feel important. And honestly, most leaders have never actually sold anything; they’re all from marketing and just recycle the same talking points about “leveraging relationships.” If Abbott ever had serious competition, the cracks would really show.
Just telling it how it is.
