You need to be close to Red Bank NJ, even if you're  a top performer, they like in person.  You'll have to fly out there for a week at least once a quarter.  They value performance but not as much as personal relationships.  It's a good solution for the market, a ton of it is about who you know in the company however.  If you're content selling and doing your thing and don't want to ever move up? Cool.  Otherwise you have to make nice with the powers that be in Red Bank. Also they have a majority investor so the winds change at times and your boss no matter how high up he or she is can't help you if they're not part of the board.
