Question

I am interviewing for an Enterprise Account Executive role. My interview is with a Principal AE, is this a bad sign? Additionally, AWS Practitioner Essentials, should I complete prior to interview? It is on the list of prep from the recruiter, It's 10+ hours to complete.

The most important aspect in the interviewing process @ AWS is to prepare your answers and examples towards the LPs (Leadership Principles)…you will have time to learn about the platform once you are hired…search for Amazon Leadership Principles and read them to understand them as best as you can.

Amazon believes everyone should “Hire and Develop the Best”, so ICs regularly interview candidates. You will be evaluated on “Technical Acumen”, so you should understand the AWS value proposition and core services (EC2, RDS, S3). It’s an easy certificate and simmers doubts, so best to get it.

Its very common that people at or above the level of you are interviewing for will be a part of the process. Not a bad sign at all. Regarding the AWS Practitioner Essentials, it is recommended but if you are already somewhat familiar with the AWS technology, services, and general concepts then it might be a bit redundant. I'd recommend looking at some of the content to check how familiar you are with it

I would not underestimate the level of detail they will ask in the interview. You will have a technical acumen part, and if you have familiarity with AWS than just do a quick review, if not I would recommend spending the time to review.

For the Principal AE, this is common as a leadership principle is hire and develop the best. This means, ICs are commonly interviewing lower level candidates. For reference, I am an IC and I do about 2-3 interviews of candidates a month.
