How challenging is it to promote and sell products or services in the face of competition at Dell?

if you are in a role that includes the entire portfolio then you're probably ok, but if you are limited let's say to networking, you are screwed.  For servers (DCAE role), it's highly competitive against HPE/Lenovo/Cisco, but then there is also the cloud, or "do nothing" as your competition.  Unfortunately many customers consider these products a commodity, so your main lever is price.

Dell has a massive product portfolio (servers, storage, networking, backup). The answer to your question largely depends on what sales territory you're covering (enterprise, commercial, acquisition). I cover enterprise and work directly with 5 accounts. It's relatively easy to promote and sell products within my accounts since they've all (mostly) standardized on Dell EMC storage and server. I rarely make any large/transformational IP networking product deals since many of them use Cisco.

If you work in the acquisition account territory then that's a different story... Those accounts can be very competitive.

its not difficult if you understand how to navigate the pricing, configuring and overall process internally, which is the biggest challenge

Laptops - any company with $$ does apple
Servers - I think Dell is up there?
Storage - pure is better and has better reps but Dell is very good
Backup - rubrik is better and has better reps
HCI - Nutanix is way better but reps are trash
Cloud - no shot
