Currently interviewing for large enterprise, AE in GTS. Was told I’ll be managing about 8-10 accounts. 
With the stock down and changes in the market with AI, how much of a risk is this opportunity right now? Keep hearing it depend on your team and territory. Should I steer clear?

I would stay far far away! Talking to both clients and former clients in the region I used to work (northern europe) as well as to formed colleagues and the organization and culture is going the wrong way fast. The offerings are good, the potential value clients can derive is great, but the stress put on the org keeps Gartner from being able to deliver on this. 
Sales management is mainly somewhere between horrible and down right  damaging, so all put together: Gartner need a complete makeover to turn the ship around. There are cooler and better places to work :)

There are some significant re-orgs (firings) and layoffs happening right now. That should tell you all you need to know. Not many people buying $100k website subscriptions these days.

LE GTS is a dumpster fire right now. Territories are a complete mess and the leadership doesn’t care about their people at all. Middle management is super fat with no incentive to change. Micromanagement to the extreme.

I would steer clear. Gartner is a dinosaur the way they are approaching AI - they claim to be a leader and write research on emerging trends yet they are so far from eating their own dog food. 
They just increased the weekly pipeline generation target, it didn’t make sense before… it’s toxic.

It depends on which region and industry vertical you’re selling into but selling Gartner is 10x more difficult now than what it was last year, AI is a disruption and only 20-30% hit quota (not winners circle). Saving grace is that Gartner is more lenient on AEs not hitting quota than SaaS companies

I've been at Gartner for 5 years, and I'm honestly surprised by the answers on this thread. Here's my take...

FACT - AI is troubling, but Gartner is a smart company, and we're going to pivot.

FACT - Gartner looks undeniably good on a resume. You get the opportunity to work very closely with CIOs, CTOs, CISOs, CDAOs. Heads of Enterprise Architecture... makes you marketable.

FACT - Territories matter.

FACT - ALE GTS is actually a great place to be, regardless of what these comments say. Especially if you're in BFSI. The top leadership is incredible. Middle management could use some work.

I wouldn't let these comments from disgruntled employees sway you in any direction. Soak in the info and make a calculated decision. I would offer my contact info, but RepVue doesn't allow.

Run. Look elsewhere, sell software. GTS is a mess, ALE has gone into the tank with new leadership imposing mandatory micromanaging by sales managers. It’s an awful culture, led by fear and CYA BS. Clients are absolutely exhausted by aggressive sales tactics, many clients are canceling outright.

-100000% steer clear. I’ve been here 6 years and am top performer. I am running so fast I can’t wait to get out. AI is eating our lunch and the stock market just downgrades us and our value prop. 7 years ago it was great,  now it’s terrible.

I would reach out to current and former reps to get some perspective. Recently left myself and territory got shrunk, culture on a downward spiral, and a lot of external pressures put on the org.

It’s not as bad as some make it sound. Tough for sure, but it all depends on your territory.
