How challenging is it to sell against competitors while working at Lenovo?

It depends upon which side of Lenovo's business you're on:  IDG (Intelligent Device Group - think pc's & mobile devices) is a leader, right up there with Dell/HP as competitors.  ISG reps can do well.   
Conversely ISG (Infrastructure Solutions Group formerly known as DCG - Data Center Group) whose portfolio comprise of IBM's former x86 server biz and Lenovo storage products which are just rebranded NetApp using ONTAP o/s. 
Lenovo really screwed up ISG business when they bought IBM's x86 biz years ago as strategy was to have their pc sellers who knew nothing about enterprise data center, take over the IBM accounts  and quickly lost all that business to HP & Dell.  Trying to get back in is very difficult as former customers have bad taste in mouth from poor transition and Lenovo is viewed as really just a PC company.
Only area that Lenovo didn't screw up was in HPCC (High Performance Computing Cluster) or supercomputers as they are a leader in this space but HPCC is predominately limited to HigherEd University - Medical/Research space.

No more so than any other industry. Customers regularly look at the big 3 and evaluate pricing, performance, and service. If you are honest with customers they will almost allows come around
