How effective is the sales training program at Paycom for individuals interested in pursuing a career in sales?

I will say they treat you like you are nothing so you will be mentally prepared for any company when you leave since it can only get better. You don’t get positive reinforcement at paycom unless you sell a huge deal.

Don’t do it! I did it when I graduated college and it was such a mess of a company. They get you on the high base pay, yet every other company in that industry pays in that range.

Paycom's sales training has changed a lot in the past few years. It's transitioned from teaching sales fundamentals (objection handling, cold calling, business acumen, etc.) to training on the product. Having said that, the job requires a high degree of figuring it out for example, reps are required to set a certain # of meetings to keep the job, this forces reps to learn how to cold call from their manager or other reps in the office. While the sales training has lost it's edge the actual job post-training is extremely demanding, fast paced, high pressure, unrealistic and inflexible in the measured daily and weekly metrics - it's the dog in a burning room gif and if you can sell in that environment you will have been resourceful enough to teach yourself how to generate interest in prospects, run and execute a sales cycle, build value for executives and  generate revenue consistently. That experience is both invaluable for a sales career and why the company has like 600% turnover.

Being an autonomous self starter is listed on every sales job description I’ve ever seen they mean it so be honest with yourself on this one. If you are not that you’re going to struggle. It’s not that no one cares about you it’s just that the company has made a deliberate choice to not handhold.

Training is vigorous so buckle up. As many have mentioned, it does change ever so often (which isn’t a bad thing) because its changing based off of feedback to improve topics. Sales to me is acquired by consistent practice so the training is a good baseline to see if this is the right field for you

Paycom's training program will definitely prepare you to sell as it is a fast paced, rigorous development period that is designed to get reps on the floor selling asap. There will be metrics you have to hit while in training that will determine whether you will graduate training or not. The program also seems to change on a 9 month to year basis so you never know what you're going to get. Once again it is rigorous, but if you can be successful in training you'll be fine in the job. Once you've had training at Paycom there are few sales jobs you wont be prepared for imo based on previous company trainings I've been through.
