The recent changes have moved most of the previous sales team into a more customer servicing type of role - there is still sales, but it is a lot of retention and managing an existing portfolio. This has lead to it being easy to hit 100% of quota but much harder to greatly exceed the goals. Top performer would often hit over 200% year after year - that is not going to be possible anymore.

I am in this role now. It depends on where you land honestly. They have put all Account Managers into verticals, also there are 2 types of Account Managers. There is a Hybrid AM & a Farmer AM. Think of Account Managers as Account Executives, but we are responsible for the book of business you are given. We have a revenue target, margin target & migration target. Both roles have those exact same targets but the Hybrid role you are not stuck to your BoB, you can chase net new logos. The Hybrid role imo is the best role to crush your quota. This is very much a sales role where you are expected to operate as the CEO of your book. Overall its a fantastic change that was needed to put PayPal on the right path because before AE's would just sell a deal and pass it to a CSM queue where merchants did not feel valued or cared for.
