GitLab is at a crossroads. While the company is making a strong push into AI, it risks losing focus—and traction—on areas where it historically stood out, like CI/CD, security, and DevSecOps. The strategic direction feels uncertain, and for now, it’s a risky place to bet long-term career growth on. The work environment is fully remote and low-pressure, which can be a great fit for some. There are many talented and collaborative people across the org, but unfortunately, underperformance isn’t always addressed, and that can affect team dynamics and morale. If you’re looking for flexibility or a temporary landing spot, GitLab might work well. But if you’re seeking rapid growth, stability, or a clear long-term path, you may want to look elsewhere—at least for the time being.
