Ryan from RepVue here, working on new classification of our salary data, refining to the different levels / job titles that Hubspot uses; looks like SMB, MM and ENT all have level 1, 2, 3 - but also "Sr." or "Principal" designations - any guidance on the common internal conventions?

It goes from level 1 - 4.  SMB 4 is the same salary as MM 1, and MM 4 = Corp 1

Sr / Principal are jargon and probably represent people at level 3 / 4 in whatever role they have. No effect on salary.

Senior and principal are used internally to distinguish at manager level. Also used in Customer success and other departments. 
Internally, account executives are classified by segment, so SB, MM and ENT. Then it's level 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Speaking for the SMB segment only: Level 1 is typically aligned with internal employees who were just promoted from BDR -> AE. The majority, if not all, outside hire AEs come in starting as a L2 or L3, depending on experience. The path to promotion is visibly laid out for you by HubSpot. Hit the required metrics and you'll qualify for that promotion. 12k bump in OTE from L2 to L3, 15k bump in OTE from L3 to L4. Keep in mind that the majority of the raise in OTE is found in the variable, not the base pay.

Sr and Principal used to be promotions/rank titles for  rep, def not jargon. HubSpot did away with them a few yrs ago and grandfathered reps in. Now it’s L1/L2/L3/L4 which is standardized across all segments. L4 also carry slightly higher quotas in all segments to account for the additional comp.

For BDRs the titles are Business Development Rep --> Principal Business Development Rep --> Associate Inbound Growth Specialist
So two mini promotions with a slight bump in pay for both base and commission.

After AIGS you'd be promoted to a L1 SMB rep assuming you meet all the promo requirements.
