MongoDB is an great place to launch a sales career, especially if you're early in your journey. Product is best-in-class, developers love it, the brand name opens doors. Database tech is interesting. There’s strong ecosystem support from solution architects, partners, sales enablement, marketing, etc. Partnerships with 3 main cloud providers makes co-selling easier. When you're in the right org (enterprise or acquisition), you’ll get world-class training and mentorship from driven, talented colleagues. That said, your experience hinges on your org and manager. Stay away from Commercial Growth. It is a junior segment lacking strategic development. The leadership in that org is weak. Across the company, the comp model delays earnings because revenue is consumption based. Expect minimal commission in your first year. Reps are often underpaid, overworked, and unsupported, with work-life balance being rare. Leadership churn and cultural shifts toward a more corporate, grind-heavy environment have dampened the once-vibrant culture. Despite these challenges, MongoDB built my sales foundation and taught me resilience. Its alumni are sought after for a reason. I'd do it all over again. No regrets. Just know what you’re signing up for, and choose your org wisely.
