Current Employee SMB is an afterthought for marketing/demand generation and with upper leadership in general. Opportunities for advancement inside the SMB space are political appointments, with an absurd preference for former ADP talent.
Opportunities outside the SMB space are non-existent, as SMB leadership has too often sent poorly-suited reps upmarket, creating a hesitance to hire from upmarket leaders.
Unsure if the acquisition by Paychex will change the SMB space, but former SMB VP Joe Frassica has been promoted to run the entire sales org and he is the worst offender with regard to cliquey favoritism. The man leads from 15 years ago in terms of employee engagement and strategy. He exists solely on soundbites and does not look beyond the most recent month when evaluating reps for new opportunities.
