I am considering a role as a commercial core AE in TMT vs a Prime Slack AE. What would you recommend?

At Salesforce, always consider a Core AE role. Depending on geography, the industry performance varies. Prime AE roles are subject to change quite a lot based on Salesforce GTM every year.

Core tends to have more job security than specialist roles, but Slack is one of the biggest pushes for Salesforce so a lot of eyes, resources, etc going there.

I was core, now I’m digital (similar to slack just selling the entire marketing suite) and I like being a co prime because you aren’t just stuck with one (possibly bad) territory, you support 3-7 territories. we don’t get paid on everything and have less products to sell but we have more opportunit

Good answers here. I'd add, which manager do you like better, what is their style, how long have they been in the role/a manager. There will be pressure to get results, how your manager communicates that each week to you will have a big impact on your life.

Core is considered more ‘prestigious’ but I would look more at the manager, the accounts, and the territory.

Core control accounts and get paid on everything

Specialist have territories and only know and push their product line.

Core would be my preference. I was a core AE for 6 years and it is more profitable to be able to sell everything rather than just one cloud. Deals also come your way sometimes.

Definitely Core from my perspective. Depending on the vertical and region Slack has tough competition against MS Teams which is incumbent in almost every account.

In tech and other agile industries, Slack may be a good bet. In my career at SF (3y as Core AE) I haven’t earned a dime from Slack.

Core AE is job security and easier to move to different AE roles should you choose. slack narrows you down to one product but people on slack teams are generally happy. I would always recommend core AE route but I'm also bias because I am a Core AE
