Question

I just read that ZoomInfo laid off 6% of their workforce yesterday.  Curious as to what impact this had on the sales organization, if any?  Were all departments impacted?  Was thinking this would be a good org to come into now given AI, etc but maybe not the right time?

6% and some were in the sales org... Yes - you should be looking into AI but Zoominfo's ai is basically chatgpt just built into the platform. My org uses ZI copilot and instead of having copilot write my emails I have a company Glean that does it using RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation) which is AI and much better than co pilot. Also this companies stock is suffering so bad they thought a name change from $ZI to $GTM would help boost as a last ditch effort. Certainly more layoffs to come. Failing company that doesnt even need a salesforce to sell numbers and emails.

In the US on the sales side, it mostly seemed to impact managers more than IC roles like SDRs.

The company still feels more stable than something like a startup tho, so if you're looking to start working in a large corporate structure it could be "okay". Morale is pretty low right now tho.

It's been like 3 years since I worked there, but it was such a shitty boiler room culture.  That being said I know several AE's who have been there for years and still stay, so not sure if things have improved.

I just know that when I worked there the norm was getting cussed at, immense pressure to push customers to close quickly (which often just pissed them off), working holidays, etc.

If someone in my family asked me if they should join ZI as an AE or SDR I'd tell them yes, if they're trying to break into sales, and no if they already have experience that they could leverage to find a sales role elsewhere.

I got fired without notice for letting my manager know that slacking me multiple times per day grilling me about deals and activity was not helpful.

ZoomInfo is quick to fire - It's always been a part of their culture. It's very transactional and cut-throat. During the time I was there I knew a guy who hit p-club the year prior, but was having a slow year. They put him on pip for having a slow half, and within a couple of months later they laid him off. He was shocked. Anyways, I've seen that play out a few times when I was there. 
I'm not surprised that this is happening. Data is slowly becoming commoditized and ZI needs to change and adjust its value proposition. It's a boiler room culture there and I wouldn't go back. Schuck and the leadership view people as numbers, they don't come off that way, but theyre actions clearly show it.

All departments were impacted. EMEA SDR org was one of them-laid off, marketing SDRs are being absorbed into other teams, and SMB managers are being outsourced to the Philippines. They are doing massive restructures of multiple orgs and sales will
Continue to change. Be weary.

Zoom info was by far the worst company I’ve ever worked for due to c-suite leadership that trickles down to managers. I would never work there again. Unless you need a paycheck to help you for 6 months while
You’re looking for another job, avoid this place at all costs.

I believe it was 6% of the company across the company not just sales. I know several AEs, SDRs and a few non selling roles that were impacted. If you're a mediocre to top performer its a great company to work for and you can make a lot of money and learn a lot about sales and general business accumen

To my knowledge they laid off a few sales directors and sales managers. They also condensed one sdr team and laid the other off. To top everything off, there are rumblings that the career path has been completely hijacked. No longer can SDR’s go the customer route into AM. now the requirement is AE.

The layoffs were mostly marketing, customer success etc. But Zoominfo is heavily focusing upmarket, the SMB space on the AM side is very vulnerable and just stagnant in general.  In terms of Sales Dev, seems looking to trim fat and promotion path uncertain.
