Question

Got recently promoted to Dell NGSA inside account executive (not field). With the recent RTO, increased metrics, trash pay - it seems Dell is a sinking ship. Is it in my best interest to be in this role for a year (get closing experience and AE title) and then leave?

Short answer - yes. 
Long answer - Dell is no longer a great place for sales. You have zero job security and they are always finding ways to pay you less to pay the stakeholders more. Stick it out and find a software role where the real money is.

Yeah definitely - nowhere seems to be safe and especially on big companies like these, performance is much more related to your team's leader and your account set than anything else.

I was in the program back when it was EMC. You gotta make it to field AE to get the pay, so tough it out and get to the field probably do a year in the field then you can get a good role at another company (I’d recommend Nutanix, pure or vast data)

I think it’s very hard to answer specifically for you. Every situation is different. Most prospective employers prefer to see at least a year in role. Longer is better.  If you have at least that long at Dell including your previous role, I feel it would be good.  You’ll have to gain experience somewhere. In today’s market it’s arguably better to get that where you are.  You will also be in a much better position to get your next role while employed.  The market is weird right now. I suspect we’ve all had difficult roles in our careers but more often than not we come out the other side better.  Time in role would be a positive for sure, but you can also start exploring other roles now.  You just might find something that fits better…but that grass isn’t always greener.  Make sure you have a top-notch LinkedIn profile.  That makes a big difference. Also get involved on LI.

I would get as much experience as you can in this role, at least 6 months, then start looking. Get some wins under your belt first!

Came from the same program.  Do a year as an iDCSE (inside data center storage specialist) and then leave.  Going from NGSA (BDR) to another company wont net you a closing position at another place most likely.

So the long term is still good if you are a performer.   I am in the role you'd probably want to have once your get out of NGSA.   Having said that look at the earning projections for you versus a lot of your same age friends in other industries.    Also the experience you get in NGSA is great (I was an outside hire and never got that).   You can take that to a field promotion, do some time there and parlay that into a large income bump within Dell or at a competitor or partner.   This is a great opportunity and you should 100% stay just to get the  experience and resume entry and then do what you want after.
