What is the Senior Solution Sales Executive role, and how is that team performing? Is it an overlay role focused on a specific part of the ServiceNow platform?

You're on the right track.  You would be responsible for a specific product/workflow.  You work with the Core AE team.   I would say that the SSE performance really depends on workflow/vertical.  I work specifically in the "Creator Workflow" or "Platform, AI, and Data" team.  It's gone through a name change this year.  I just joined earlier this year.  I'm in Enterprise Verticals.  My POV; it's a clown show.  Performance is bad; I don't have a strong perspective on how other workflows are performing.

Overlay.  Focused on a certain set of products. Big focus on self reliance of pipeline as well as supporting Core AE or Client Director’s deals/pipe he/she finds. Causes some heartburn with core rep as both SSE and Core Reps measured on net new pipe. Stepping on toes happens

I am a Core AE and work with many different SSEs who support CSM, SecOps/Risk, Employee Workflows, IT Operations, and Creator and the Performance is not only dependent on which product you support but which vertical (Manufacturing, Retail, Finance, etc) you are in.  Some are crushing it- others not.

It's an overlay role, although depending on the BU there is more autonomy and expectation to prospect. I'll say covering Commercial accounts, there is absolutely an expectation to prospect and own your business rather than being reactive. Some BUs, like CRM, seem to be on a good path.

It is an overlay sales role, yes.   As with anything, it depends on which territory the overlay is tied to.   We have overlay sales roles in many areas of the platform.  They include Employee Experience, Security and Risk, Creator, AppEngine, and others.   They are seen as domain experts in the area of the platform in which they operate.   As an overlay, you are spread across a territory, so demand is usually NOT an issue.  You aren't necessarily expected to prospect, but rather be the expert in that specialty product.
