Hearing the CAE role is mostly outbound, is it worth coming to Datadog for the AE title as a top-performing BDR at a more prominent company?

You will be a BDR. I would stay at your current company until you get promoted, or look elsewhere from Datadog. The CAE org has terrible management, and no one hits quota so you will likely be put on a PIP if you aren't a favorite of your manager.

As someone who made the jump from top-performing BDR from a different company to the CAE role at Datadog. I'd also recommend staying where you are. You spend more time combatting the company's sales reputation than actually discovering business issues to build a deal around. For example I had a VP (on my first time speaking with him) say the company's reputation precedes me. Then told me to go into salesforce to delete their company from our CRM.

Don't get me wrong it's a great company with a strong suit of products. The CAE org has served its purpose and is scraping the bottle of the barrel. So unless you want to split your time between selling to prospects and selling yourself to management, I'd say look else where

Definitely lots of outbound work and pretty self reliant on building your own pipeline - that said, the product in incredible and there’s some very strong leaders here. It’s a grind but plenty of opportunity to grow, improve and make money

I dont think so. Low base pay, OTE isn’t amazing. Sounds like your goal is to get the AE title which you could do anywhere.

To answer the first part, yes, its almost ALL outbound. Dont expect any inbound leads.

They regularly hire top performing BDRs from other companies into the AE role. All closing roles at Datadog are very heavy outbound focused, doesn't matter if you're a commercial or Majors rep, the expectation is that most of your time is best on outbound activities.
