Smartsheet did a lot of things well with culture, resources available and leadership's willingness to support the sales org. However, after the sale to PE this past January it became apparent that they had been making questionable changes to their licensing model and leadership to make the company more valuable on paper and more appealing to PE. This is certainly understandable from a business perspective but it added to the overall challenges and expectations of the sales org. My fear for the future is that the new PE owners will make further changes to what made Smartsheet a unique and rewarding place to work.

Sales leadership and training are virtually nonexistent. Many managers have not had hands-on selling experience in the past 2/3 years, which has led to a disconnect with the current sales landscape. Or managers who were promoted from being reps seem to have been accustomed to a high volume of inbound leads, which has made it difficult for them to teach core sales...Read More
