Met with a recruiter about a hunting role in Databricks' Startup Segment - is quota/OTE attainable? What is total comp like?  Any gotcha's a potential candidate should look out for/be aware of?

Quotas are very hard to achieve. Majority 80% of the sales rep doesn’t hit OTE. Complan for consumption is changed every 6 months. Make sure you understand your patch. Sales cycle is 6-8 months. Onboarding process 9 months

I would agree that the quotas can be hit or miss, and yes...the plan has changes every year, but where is that not the case? The startup segment is one of the better markets at Databricks. Most of the companies are cloud-native, and are saavy from a data perspective. It does take ~1 year to establish your territory, but the expectations from leadership are in line with that. It's not a churn-and-burn culture. As long as you're approaching your business the right way, they will give you the runway to get things going.

Vet out hunting role throughly at Databricks. Most hunters aren't hitting quota despite what they tell you.
Also, get specific on accounts/territories. They like to make changes

For most, no, for 1/20 yes. Depends how much your mgr likes you and if you get the 1 out of 100 accounts that will buy.

Ask how many on the team achieved quota last year. How  big was the team last year. How big is the team this year? What accounts will you get and how do they gauge propensity to buy ie what about them (tech stack, job openings, current engineers) indicates they are a good fit for Databricks? Contrary to what they believe, not every company wants to use Databricks. Many data engineers have disdain for Apache Spark which is Databricks.
