Question

Been tracking Datadog for a while and waiting for their quota attainment number to get better but it's still very low, despite the decent score and some of the rankings being ok.  Seems people somewhat like the environment but not many folks hit.  Are quotas too high or is there something else?

Quotas are high and a lot of people at least in the enterprise space hit their number by essentially doing a renewal of an account that's growing. Hitting your number in greenfield is impossible.

For southern Europe / SMB segment -> quota are unrealistic due to the fast that the markets are very well penetrated. You're not selling something new, observability has been around the corner for a while now and companies have solutions in place. Your goal is to either replace competitors and change a "build" mentality within target companies. 
Datadog will tell you that there are still many companies that are untouched... Numbers is one thing, reality is another: those untouched accounts are untouched for a reason!
Having said that, the SPIFF is interesting to increase your attainment and get better commissions.

Datadog has a fun culture if you like fun. It makes working their enjoyable and depending on the org you join a great time. Quota attainment is low, but leadership tries to make changes to help address this

Specific to the commercial segment, the quota attainment number will not get better and that's by design. Theres way too many reps and way too few accounts - perhaps 10 accounts a rep gets will even be a decent target for observability software. The org is designed to be a revolving door with managers playing favorites and maybe 50-75% of those favorites hitting their numbers while everyone else barely makes above their base. Even if you are one of those favorites, the chances of being promoted are slim to none and I saw most top performers leave because of this.
