What is the mid-market opportunity like at Datadog? I've talked to a few reps and it seems extremely hit or miss based on what accounts you get. Are reps generally seeing success? Also is the base / commission split on here accurate?

The thing that the other answers fail to acknowledge is that every MM AE at Datadog has good accounts in their territory which are capable of becoming multi-million dollar Datadog customers. Do some reps get a lucky bounce here or there and happen to catch an account at the right time during a strategic RFP, absolutely! But to say that reps account list was any better then theirs is non-sense, IMO.

I've give you an example. A MM rep had one of the best account lists in all of MM as we was one of the first West Coast hires, and he was a really strong rep. He went through multiple opportunities with some marquee logos but the timing was never right  (long term contracts in place, decision maker influence, you name it) - which prevented him from closing that blow up deal. He still did well, got promoted to enterprise and another rep came in from the outside right as they decided it was finally time to do a real PoV of Datadog. Guy hit 300% of his number on one deal- and no it wasn't handed to him either, we worked his butt off for it.

MM reps at Datadog are not geo-located, they get an even spread of 30 Tier 0-3 accounts. What you do with those accounts and their place on the observability journey is what make some lists look better than others.

My advice to those who answered this question with negative sentiment... Keep at it, put in your daily PG and stay in the game long enough and I promise you some of your accounts will be ready to spend a lot of money on Datadog. Then, suddenly your territory will look like the golden goose egg to everyone else.

And yes, MM AEs outbound like an SDR just like they do in every role at Datadog.. Doesn't matter if you're a commercial AE or Majors, the expectation is to keep the top of funnel filled.

I don't rely on a college grad to feed my family and you shouldn't either.

Very hit or miss based on account list that you get. Feast or famine.

Base is 95k with variable being 75k.

It's very hit or miss. At best you do 3-5 logos per year. You're expected to outbound like an sdr. The new logo bonus is very solid tho, you can get 12k for a 1k monthly deal. Also a brilliant product that will teach you a lot if you're willing to learn.
