A recruiter told me that at each level (ie, L5, L6, etc.), comp plans are the same for reps in Enterprise, Commercial/SMB, etc. so that reps don't feel like their roles are stepping stones. I found it hard to believe, is this true?

Comp structure is similar but plans/OTE is different for each. OTE goes up with each level. However you can be an L6 in SMB and Enterprise.

Commission variable is lower for inside roles vs. field sales. Some segments also have differing plans where there is a MBO component built-in vs. straight consumption quota.

Yes comp structure is similar for each level regardless of vertical (SMB vs. Enterprise). Not a dramatic difference between an L6 in SMB vs. L6 in Enterprise other than the ability to outperform quota.

This is a bold faced lie. Thing about it, why would AWS pay the same for an Enterprise Rep over an SMB rep? I used to work there and they told us the same thing but all you have to do is ask around internally. Not even all the same people in your role and level will make the same. It's bogus.

For the most part this is true. A L5 with SMB and a L5 with Enterprise would be equally matched.

Depends. Aside from the levels, there are different job titles within sales. Tech 43 and Tech 67. It all depends on where you land. Just like anything in sales, luck of the draw basically. Check out levels.fyi to help with pay guidance.

Correct, the beauty in this is that you dont need to move from commercial, SMB to enterprise like in most organization to start making good money. The pay scales (L5, L7 etc) are the same for every role within AWS, meaning, as an L6 in Marketing you can make as much as an L6 in inside sales aside from the variable comp component however.
