There are Account Executive roles open where the job is to 'drive conference attendance' with 'Gartner's strategic global 500 accounts.' Is this a good position to take on compared to other business units?

If you're more JR and looking to get into Gartner - then yes! But, in terms of AE roles at Gartner... it's not at at the top of the list.

If you are a junior sales person, yes.
If you are tenured there is nothing strategic about this role, look at roles in sales for GBS or GTS - like actually AE roles

Agree with the answer. If you really want to get into Gartner (Great stuff, and a great place to start out a career) then, by all means, take the job. But if you are patient and demonstrate real interested and passion for an AE role at their advisory services unit, then it will be a lot more beneficial for your career, rather than spending 24 months selling conferences. (which is usually the amount of time they ask you to stay in your role before moving to another BU or position)

The conferences team is a great place to start - and it’s what I would consider good pay for entry(ish) level sales.

You will not have the opportunity to make money like the AE’s but you can move up pretty seamlessly if you prove to be a good salesperson. You also can qualify for Winners Circle!

Yes! Dependent on what level you are in your career (this is more junior/ entry level/ 2nd Jobber), however this is definitely a great position at Gartner. Gartner Events are highly coveted so this would be a "soft" sell and a fantastic way to learn and grow within the organization.

Conference sales definitely pays less than research & advisory roles(since conferences are something like 30% margin and R&A is >70%).  But it wouldn't be the worst place to start--typically you can transfer divisions after two years, or possibly even less.

I would look towards more of their research/services sales openings. Conference Attendance can be very difficult, especially with the economy.
