I have been a slack AE and I was not free to contact customers. I would highly recommend you to look for core positions as prime is generically not strategic for customers and hard to achieve quotas.

It all depends on how you prefer to work.
Core AE will be responsible for orchestrating deals an owning the opportunity when marketing cloud AE will be there to help in closing the deal. Overall core AE have more responsibility but also more pressure and have to own the customer relationship.

Core means you get to drive the acct roadmap vs Prime is getting the prospect to buy your product. Core reps get commission on everything vs Prime obviously gets paid only for their product.
If you like getting in deep and understanding the product etc and maybe a few more accts to prospect into ,then Prime should be your thing.

All the glory lies in the Core role. If you're a Type A leader, you will not want to sit passenger (backseat) to another rep. The Core AE drives everything, the prime supports.

I would describe it as wanting to be a QB or a WR/RB in football terms. While the WR/RB positions can have major impact and can do a lot with their role, the QB will always run the show and have final call over an account decision.

Typically, if you're a core rep with Marketing Cloud, Tableau and Mulesoft reps in your territory, you'll get paid on what they sell in your territory - it rolls up to you.  You'll also have a larger goal because of this model.  The downside is those reps typically have larger territories so if they are able to make more elsewhere, you may be neglected and not reap anything in your territory.  They could theoretically make their number by not selling anything in your territory and you'll be on the hook for the difference.

Core AEs are the generalists taking responsibility for accounts. As Core you earn from almost everything sold in your territory. Cloud AEs are specialists taking responsibility for products. I prefer Core because the role is less likely to be changed or made redundant.
